Irrigation automation

Irrigation control

Irrigation automation allows gardens and green areas to be watered according to predefined rules, without switching the sprinklers on manually every day. Amplituda can connect the irrigation system to KNX automation and the building’s shared visualisation. A weather station and the available data on humidity, air temperature and rainfall can help adapt the watering schedule to actual conditions, instead of the system always switching on purely by the clock.

Different garden zones can have different modes, depending on the plants and the technical design of the irrigation. The user can still change settings manually or temporarily switch off the automation when needed.

Zones according to the garden’s needs

Lawns, ornamental plants and other green areas do not necessarily need the same amount of water or the same schedule. The irrigation system can therefore be divided into zones that are controlled separately, in line with the technical design of the valves and sprinklers. The time and duration of operation can be defined for each zone, and the rules can later be adjusted seasonally.

KNX integration does not replace a well-designed hydraulic installation; it allows the available zones to be included in the building’s shared logic. The user gets clearer control and less need to switch on individual parts of the garden manually.

Weather data instead of a fixed timer

A weather station can provide data on humidity, air temperature and rainfall. When this data is available to the system, irrigation can respond more intelligently than a simple time switch. For example, after heavy rain watering can be postponed or skipped, while in drier periods the schedule can be adjusted according to defined rules. The exact logic depends on the sensors and the project, so it is important to determine in advance which information really affects the decision.

The goal is not to automate every possible situation, but to reduce unnecessary water consumption and keep the garden in good condition with less day-to-day intervention by the user.

Irrigation in a shared system

When irrigation is integrated with the building’s other functions, the user can view it from a familiar interface together with lighting, shading or pool technology. Depending on the project, active zones can be displayed, manual watering started or the automation temporarily stopped. Such a solution is particularly practical in larger residences and buildings used only occasionally, where the user does not want a separate controller for each outdoor system.

Integration also makes seasonal mode changes and later maintenance easier, because the control rules are more clearly documented. The automation takes over the routine, while the user keeps oversight and the ability to intervene when a special need arises.
